Privacy

In the digital age, private companies and government agencies are creating large-scale systems to collect personal data from people in public spaces. Few realize that digital advertising structures, like billboards, street furniture, wallscapes, etc., are often collecting smart phone data from passersby. Once this data has been collected, there is no meaningful way to monitor how it's used. Regulation is scant, and abuse is rampant.

Alcohol Density

Decades of research shows the harms that can be caused by over-concentration of alcohol outlets. The California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control exercises little meaningful oversight, and some cities recklessly approve liquor permits without considering the impacts that high alcohol density can have on communities.

Noise

In today's urban areas, noise is a fact of life. Noise from road traffic, air traffic, construction work, emergency vehicles, nightclubs and other sources can actually harm human health. The problem becomes even worse when disturbances during nighttime hours keep citizens from getting a good night’s sleep.
